Why Scouting

  • What are the aims of Scouting?

    The BSA Scouting program is designed to help scouts grow up into the best people they can be, giving them not only knowledge of nature, survival, and various related skills, but also valuable experience in leadership, teamwork, service, and more.

    The "Aims of Scouting," which Scouts BSA program and our troop strive for each and every scout to grow in, are character development, leadership development, citizenship training, and personal fitness.

  • Character Development

    Our scouts are taught the values of the Scout Law -- being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent -- and are encouraged not only to embody these traits while at scouting-related events, but throughout their weeks after they leave every meeting. We are a friendly and welcoming troop and always have our arms open to new members into the scouting family.

    As Scouts plan their activities and progress toward their goals, they experience personal growth. The Good Turn concept is a major part of the personal growth method of Scouting. Young people grow as they participate in community service projects and do Good Turns for others. Probably no device is so successful in developing a basis for personal growth as the daily Good Turn. - troopleader.scouting.org, "Scouting Aims and Methods"

  • Leadership Development

    Scouts BSA is designed to be scout-led, and try to embody that as a troop. We do our best to see that every scout has a leadership position and that it's one that suits them, matching their abilities while also challenging them to grow. Our scouts plan meetings, outings, and service projects, and keep our troop up and running!

    The Scouting program encourages Scouts to learn and practice leadership skills. Every Scout has the opportunity to participate in both shared and total leadership situations. Understanding the concepts of leadership and becoming a servant leader helps a Scout accept the leadership role of others and guides them towards participating citizenship and character development. - troopleader.scouting.org, "Scouting Aims and Methods"

  • Citizenship Development

    Troop 32 scouts are held to a high standard. _____

    The Boy Scouts of America will prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law. - troopleader.scouting.org, "Scouting Aims and Methods"

  • Personal Fitness

    Not only does rank advancement require scouts to keep track of their activities and push to improve physical capability, our outings such as hikes and campouts challenge our scouts physically while engaged and having fun! Additionally, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout also requires earning the Personal Fitness merit badge, which teaches scouts about how to take care of their physical, mental, and emotional health.

    On my honor I will do my best
    To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
    To help other people at all times;
    To keep myself
    physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. - The Boy Scout Law

  • In every aspect of our troop, Troop 32 seeks to uphold these Aims of Scouting, giving our scouts the best experience and payoff as possible

    At Troop 32, we focus on the goals of Scouting in all our activities. We work to promote personal growth, character building, and a sense of community among our scouts. Through outdoor activities, skill development, and teamwork, we create experiences that enrich our scouts and help them become responsible citizens and leaders. Join us for a journey full of friendships and lasting memories, making sure each scout gets the best experience from their time with Troop 32.

    But… is it safe? and is it fun?
